I (Yan Huang), went to the Exectec meetup
on Tuesday 29th, 2007. They had a lot to discuss about. The topic for the meeting
was communications in the digital age. They brought in many interesting points, involving
using the correct medium of communication. One of the
examples that they gave were… if you had hand written a card and sent it out, it will
mean that much more to that person. However, Bronwyn,
one of the more opinionated Exectec members (gotta love her viewpoints though), did
say that if she saw that she might also be offended because she’s aware that it’s
a marketing tool. I guess that will be something to think about too. During
the meetup, Joel discussed
Jott and Plaxo, which are online services. For
Jott, you validate your email address and you validate your cell phone. Your cell
phone must have Caller ID enabled or it won’t be validated. After
you validate it, you can proceed on testing the web application—you call the number
and your voice is transferred to Jott’s servers. I think this really an amazing
service. It will save you a lot of time because people typically talk faster
than they type or write so this will help speed up many processes.
Jott definitely has potential in going mainstream with
their idea and their remarkable website, which is written in .NET with it being heavy
on Ajax and CSS. I would recommend anything to give Jott a
try!
