A couple days ago, I got notified that my Limited Liability Company, One
V8 LLC, was approved by the Secretary of State so that’s definitely progress.
My first thought was to use OS Commerce as
the backend for my website, since it is an open source software. I integrated
this ecommerce solution for one of the clients at Gold Zeppelin–it is indeed a
pretty powerful for a free solution. However, my opinion was swayed away from
it because of its platform. I prefer a real object orientated language be the
core of my business so I went researching on .NET solutions. I (Yan Huang) found a
cart that was free and seemed pretty promising from the demo–VevoCart.
The free version is a full version–the only catch is the libraries are all compiled.
If you want the source code for the libraries, you pay $100 (which is definitely a
good price) for the version with the source. If I need to do any customizations
to the core libaries of VevoCart, I can always purchase it later.
I (Yan Huang) spent pretty much two full days getting a layout made and integrating
it with VevoCart. I (Yan Huang) also
took the liberty of re-doing my logo. The one I had Sunitha outsource looked
good but had too many colors and was not a vector shape. The idea for the new
logo is based on the old one but I simplified it a lot. Through designing the
website, one service that I thought was very useful was Fotolia.
They offer stock pictures that you can use for your business for a very low cost compared
to other services. I avoided using Flickr or Google
Images to avoid legal problems down the line.
